Paua shell jewelry – handmade in Kiel

The Iridescent Shell from New Zealand

Welcome to the most colorful corner of Salty Dreamers! The paua shell, also known as abalone or sea opal, is famous for its incredibly intense interplay of blue, green, and purple hues. Here in Kiel, we craft handmade necklaces, bracelets, and earrings from these unique natural beauties, naturally waterproof. Each shell is an absolute one-off.

Was macht die Paua-Muschel so besonders?

Aktuelle Informationen findest du direkt beim New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).

About Us

Handmade Ocean Jewelry from Kiel

Hi! Welcome to Salty Dreamers. We are Fynn from Germany and Felize from the Netherlands, two people with a shared love for the sea, craftsmanship, and authentic moments.

Fynn and Felize, founders of Salty Dreamers from Kiel

In 2019, we met and fell in love on a trip through New Zealand. Not only with each other, but also with the beaches, the vastness, and the stillness of the sea on the other side of the world.

During many of our long walks on the beach, we discovered the beautiful paua shell (abalone). Known for its iridescent blue and green hues, which shimmer differently depending on the light. It carried the sea within it. We were instantly fascinated. In 2021, the time had come: our first small jewelry brand, “The Paua Factory,” was born. But that was only the beginning of our journey, because “The Paua Factory” soon became something bigger.

From the Beach to Kiel: Our Studio

But it wasn’t just the paua shell that stole our hearts. We love sunset walks on the beach, sand between our toes, and the salty air in our hair. This love gave birth to the Salty Dreamers label, a world for everyone who loves the sea just as much as we do.

Today, we lovingly handcraft our necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and anklets in our studio in Kiel. We use high-quality, durable materials:

  • Iridescent paua shells (abalone) from New Zealand
  • Delicate freshwater pearls
  • Sea-shaped sea glass
  • Natural cowrie shells
  • High-quality, rust-resistant, and skin-friendly stainless steel and 925 sterling silver, waterproof and suitable for everyday wear

Our philosophy: Authentic beach jewelry that is not only beautiful but also easy to repair and maintain, so it can join you on every adventure.

If you can’t make it to us in Kiel, you can simply design your own necklace online: In the configurator, you choose the chain, length, and pendant, and we assemble it by hand in Kiel and ship it within 48 hours.

Creative Jewelry Workshops on the Baltic Sea

Because we want to share this magic, we also offer creative jewelry workshops in Northern Germany in addition to our online shop. Whether as a cozy girls’ evening, a creative team event, or an unforgettable bachelorette party, you’ll learn how to design your own unique ocean jewelry in a small, personal group.

We’ll be there with you, guiding you through every step of the way. What remains: a piece of jewelry you made yourself and memories that will linger long after.

Over 290 reviews with an average of 5.0 stars speak for themselves. What truly moves us are the messages that come afterward, from groups saying: That was the highlight of our bachelorette party.
